The first major number patch since 2005 was released today into the test server. All heroes have been reworked, the HUD is completely different, most of the game mechanics and the map have been completely changed. We'll have to see what the reaction among the pro scene and pubs is, but there's no arguing that this is a BIG deal especially considering dota is the biggest esports title by prize pool. http://www.dota2.com/700
Yeah, I didn’t include the number at first, but I think it’s about Dota 2. WC3 Dota hasn’t seen much action lately.
Dota 6.xx isn't available anymore, while Dota 2 launched in public beta in 2011.
Technically it hasn't been released yet—it will go live tomorrow. (It might already be on the test server?) I've got the patch notes, and they're really impressive. I'm eager to begin using it tomorrow!
This change applies to Dota 2, not the original version. It's a separate update from the 6.x series.
Dota 2 is identical to Dota 1, just using a different engine instead of a custom map from WC3. Dota 1 6.x launched in 2005, while Dota 2 came out in 2011 and is essentially the same game. Dota 2 7.0 updates the older version Dota 6.x that was 11 years old.
After reviewing the patch notes, I think the updates will only reduce the game's balance. The new HUD is decent, but the revamped leveling system feels terrible. Many characters now seem poorly designed, and the updated Monkey King appears overly powerful. I’m really hoping these changes won’t ruin a game I’ve spent 1,400 hours on over two years.
