Doom is doomed!
I saw the TB video and thought about it. I’ve played that around two years ago. The maps feel like they came straight from CoD: AW or similar. I don’t enjoy loading out in my FPS games either. It’s really frustrating because you can’t just pick a weapon randomly from the ground. Back then, things were different—I used to enjoy them a lot! The huge weapon models also bothered me; they looked so clumsy to me. I’m really disappointed with how it’s evolved, especially since it’s still in Beta.
I don't understand why it's being linked to COD. It didn't seem like that at first, though everyone keeps comparing it to COD and suggesting COD created it. Just a note: Doom launched a decade before COD, and even Doom 3 with MP elements came out before COD 2. Probably you haven't played older Doom titles since it's not really about arena shooters anymore. If you're talking about a comeback in that style, Unreal Tournament has been developing for some time and fits the arena shooter vibe. (MP might fit loosely, but it still needs improvement.) Is that what id/Bethesda have marketed Doom as, or is that your own belief? They seem to be pushing the multiplayer just as hard or harder than the single player mode from what I've seen. Honestly I don't think I've heard a word about the single player since the announcement trailer. If you feel we should judge it on the single player mode instead, then we absolutely have to wait until reviews are out. There is very little to go on, and what little there is looks questionable.
For MP we received just one trailer, which I’m not sure about, and the beta version was two months ago while the campaign trailer and cinematic one were released for SP. All other trailers and promotions I’ve seen so far have only SP content, as far as I remember. Personally, based on what Doom has always been, it seems like a SP game. I’m sure they hope MP succeeds, but I don’t think their main focus is on that. My opinion matches what I’ve seen; even if the game might not be great, we should keep an eye on it. From my experience, it runs well, but we have no idea how SP or other MP modes will perform.
I watched some Beta gameplay and thought it could be a fun experience, though it seems to lack much story. It probably isn't meant to be a narrative-driven FPS. Fallout 4 seems more suited for that style, but FO4 might work better when you're seated near the screen.
It could include a solid solo adventure (similar to Wolfenstein: New Order).
Evaluate games by their beta version. That's really a solid concept.
Looking at it through a technical lens and focusing on improvements, the early issues were noticeable but not overly disruptive. The intro screens lagged significantly on Nvidia hardware, prompting an on-screen alert about the problem. Most users didn’t express frustration, and there were no major complaints about limited graphics choices since the advanced settings remained hidden. Considering the beta phase was only a month old, we can expect refinements rather than fundamental changes to core gameplay.
