There seems to be no specific reason preventing the use of Photoshop in a VM beyond its non-official status by Adobe. It is feasible to enable GPU passthrough in Hyper-V, though it’s unclear which manager you’re working with.

I’m operating on smaller VMs on a G3258 Dual Core Pentium with 8GB RAM, but I prefer 64GB in other systems for more demanding tasks. Are you certain 32GB is sufficient? If you anticipate needing more, purchasing two 32GB units now would be wiser than attempting to add another unmatched 16GB later.

I’m able to run dual monitors via the iGPU on an i7-4770K, but a dedicated GPU offers better performance for OpenCL/GL applications in Photoshop and similar software. A contemporary GPU (not an RX 580) truly excels in video processing, such as with Premiere Pro, whereas Photoshop is less optimal.

You have the freedom to use any GPU you prefer, including the GT 740. After all, it’s your machine. I own several GT 710s in older builds, two RX 580 units (one new, one used), and others like an RTX 3060 with 12GB RAM. For video rendering, a faster GPU would significantly improve performance, though the RTX 4080 and 4090 are more expensive than I’d like to spend.

It’s worth noting that anything beyond Photoshop CC 2019 may not install on a GT 740. As you progress toward Photoshop 2024, the required GPU specifications increase. You might be fine with CS5.1/5.5 or CS6.0, and there’s no need to rush into the latest AI features in Photoshop.

I favor traditional cases with ample space for multiple hard drives and a 5.25-inch bay or two if I require a BDR optical drive or an internal LTO tape drive. Modern cases that accommodate hard drives include the Fractal Design R5. The model with eight 3.5-inch bays is ideal for RAID-Z2 ZFS arrays.

Older builds such as the Lian Li V2000 feature a separate 12-drive bay and space for an additional four-drive hot-swap bay at the front. This isn’t appealing to everyone, but personally, I wouldn’t choose a gaming case adorned with flashy elements, lights, or 12 DayGlo fans.

If you require more SATA ports, you can opt for plug-in PCIe SATA cards or a second-hand LSI SAS HBA controller card for under $30. SAS cards also manage SATA drives effectively.

I possess a Win11 Business license via my MS Subscription and will primarily handle office tasks on a PC, eliminating the necessity to purchase an operating system.

The suggestions are great, and yes, you should be able to work with integrated graphics in Photoshop CC 2019.

Not a regular player but not a gamer too. I believe keeping the temperature at 12700K while using a better cooler would be a smarter choice.

Great feedback! I often handle heavy workloads with multiple VMs interacting, sometimes running several applications together. These include Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, IIS, Websphere, and more. They require significant memory. Based on your advice and the previous post, I plan to upgrade to 64GB RAM. I’m currently using PS CC20019 on a GT 740 machine, which works well, and my OS is Windows 7. With your expertise in GPUs, could you recommend a suitable GPU for the latest Photoshop version?

I also need ample storage space—some VMs are reaching 400 GB with frequent snapshots, and data loss is increasing. I rely on VMware for deployment.

I'm careful when purchasing Windows keys that seem too cheap. They often come from Volume Licences meant for business or corporate users, or Educational Licenses for students. These bulk licenses aren't meant to be divided and resold to personal users.
Holding a 25-character Activation Key doesn't automatically mean you have a valid Microsoft license. Activation Keys and Licenses are separate concepts. A key just enables Windows/Office installation, but if you bought a Volume or Educational key without permission, your license might not be valid. The details matter.

It's possible the original user still has a transferable Windows license on their current machine. If so, you could move it to a new device after disposing of the old one. Avoid buying questionable "grey market" keys without proper authorization.

Most buyers of these $12 keys are either unaware or don't care about legitimacy. It's unlikely Microsoft will ever stop allowing unlicensed installations, but you're now informed of potential issues.
In any case, I find it hard to justify spending $12 on a dubious key when free patched versions exist. Are they always safe? Who knows.
I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows Home to Professional for $99. Was that reasonable? Maybe, but at least I have a proper license.

I'm unsure. My subscription includes extra benefits like Office 365, operating systems, and SQL Server.
