I got an old laptop that some people said had slow parts like i5 or i3. I don't know if my stuff is really ancient. Here are the details: Model : Lenovo Thinkpad SL400 Processor : Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6570 @ 2.10GHz Memory : SODIMM DDR2 Synchronous 667 MHz (1.5 ns) - 4GB (2GB x 2) Storage : SATA HDD 230GB OS : Ubuntu 22.04 (default DE) With this setup, it takes about these times. boot into the os : 2m30s shutdown : 20s firefox first launch : 50s firefox subsequent launch : 8s I am wondering if putting an SSD in would make my start and opening Firefox much faster. PS : Before I had Archlinux which was really snappy (I didn't have a desktop, just a window manager). Thanks.

A fast SSD makes all the difference, even if your computer is really old and it can do amazing things on its own.

Definitely! Swapping for an SSD makes your old computer go way faster. Also, you could swap out the processor for a stronger one—just make sure to check and update the BIOS before doing that.

Is that possible? I thought CPUs couldn't be changed in a laptop. But if they can, do other processors fit right? I need to know the steps or a guide here. I could do it if I find out how it works.
