Hi everyone, here’s what I’m experiencing. On Windows 7 64-bit after a repair, the system restarts and shows the Windows logo. At the desktop it displays a black screen with just the mouse cursor, but the mouse works fine. No background images or icons appear. I’ve tried using chkdsk, scf scan, bootloader fixes, and backup/reinstallation, but nothing worked. I need a way to restore Windows so I can access data that isn’t showing in the backup. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. If explorer.exe isn’t starting, you’ll see a black screen with just the cursor. Since it won’t launch, reinstalling Windows might be the best option.

Choose the appropriate option for fixing boot issues. The correct path depends on what’s wrong: install properly, fix MBR, modify sectors, or adjust boot settings like boot.ini and BCD.

I mean tweak the operating system settings, not just fix the boot process. Adjusting it will make the computer start up and then automatically update drivers. Just a couple of restarts should do the trick.

I completed everything automatically and made the necessary corrections, but the issue persists. The system restarted, and it has been stuck on the message "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" for roughly 20 to 25 minutes.

It should happen almost immediately, not the 20-25 minutes. There might be an issue with your device. Perhaps give it a bit more time. If that doesn’t work—reset it and restart it again. After a few resets, Windows usually begins the repair process.
