I was looking for a Black Mesa versus Original Half Life style change on San Andreas, but it doesn’t come close, so I’ll skip these remasters.
It seems like this entire remaster project is causing problems right now. There are performance problems even on powerful computers, issues with the Rockstar launcher, and visual/ graphical glitches. The character models and NPCs appear quite poor in this version. It looks like the original vanilla versions perform significantly better, especially when graphics and gameplay mods are applied.
Additionally, the release of this Trilogy Definitive Edition is not going well. Players on consoles are experiencing performance problems, while PC users are struggling to launch the game because of Rockstar's PC launcher issues. On PC, the situation is so severe that some players have had to disable 'Grand Theft Auto Online' and 'Red Dead Redemption Online' to avoid the game. This has led to the PC version being taken offline, making online titles from Rockstar inaccessible on the platform.
On their website, Rockstar has removed the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition. So far, the launcher has stayed down for over a day, preventing PC gamers from playing the game they paid for. This launch has not only disappointed but also affected all of Rockstar's online offerings.
What makes this even more frustrating is that the game doesn’t require internet connectivity. All three titles in the trilogy are single-player games, needing no deep launcher integration or online access. There’s no valid explanation for why these issues should have caused such strong dissatisfaction among PC players, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
It's really accurate right now, honestly. This has shifted into a more "Anti-social" club experience, isn't it? LOL.
Also, since I haven't played these games on PC before, it seems like a good idea to give up any chances of playing them now. I think Rockstar won't release a better, smoother version of this series despite the criticism. They actually hired an unskilled development studio for it. Forgot the name.
But fortunately, I haven't purchased this Trilogy yet. I'm not sure if the original vanilla versions will run well on modern PC hardware and widescreen settings, among other factors. I'll check the internet now to find some clarification.
Thanks for the response, Terry. I understand the PS Emulator, but I haven't experimented with running a console game through an emulator on my PC yet. I mostly stick to original PC versions, though there are some PlayStation-only games I'd love to play on my PC. The KILLZONE title is one of those—I really wish it were available for Windows PC.
I'll check if I can obtain the original discs for these three GTA games. I haven't purchased anything from Fleabay before. Also, using MODS with any older PC version of the GTA Trilogy can be a bit complicated.
FWIW, this situation improves or worsens depending on the angle you take. The complete source code for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has been exposed. Vadim M. mentioned that the Nintendo Switch version included all the source code for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, allowing players to view scripts, text files, and internal tools. This represents a significant leak, though it seems unlikely modders would exploit this code for their projects. Ultimately, it could lead to serious complications. The PC version lacks the game’s source code, and the game remains unavailable for purchase on the Rockstar Store. According to the team, availability will depend on removing certain files.

I'm not entirely confident about this, but I don't believe source code details are necessary for users to modify. They just need access to SDK tools. The source code should remain confidential, as it's something that shouldn't be shared publicly and isn't required. Whatever the situation, it seems Rockstar made a mistake, maybe linked to Dan Houser's departure, which could have weakened quality control.
