Diagnosing shut down.
Diagnosing shut down.
I have a PC that starts up normally, runs briefly, and then stops abruptly without warning.
Could you find some simple diagnostic tools to help figure out the cause?
Are there any easy-to-use options available in Windows 11?
I’m technically okay but not an expert.
I’ve noticed my power supply is about ten years old and I have a replacement, though it’s not something I’d tackle easily.
Revisiting my question... if that's acceptable.
Are there any simple diagnostic tools or easy-to-use options that could clarify what's happening?
Sarcasm doesn't add value here.
I create photon sensing neutrino detectors professionally.
It doesn't assist in diagnosing why my PC suddenly stops without warning.
And I'm familiar with how my car functions. Thanks.
It could be any number of things.
From your home power supply, to the 10-year-old unknown PSU, to 50 other components.
In response to your question... No, there aren't really 'simple' diagnostic tools available.
Windows keeps an error log, but you must learn how to interpret it and grasp what it means.
Many of you here are very familiar with PC diagnostics.
However, we require some basic information to proceed.
In response to your inquiry...No, there aren't really 'easy to use' diagnostic tools. A pity. Thank you.
Since you don't know the specs for your system, you can step through this guide to troubleshoot on your own. "No POST", "system won't boot", and "no video output" troubleshooting checklist "No POST", "system won't boot", and "no video output" troubleshooting checklist This checklist is a compilation of troubleshooting ideas from many forum members. It's very important to actually perform every step in the checklist if you want to effectively troubleshoot your problem. 1.Did you... forums. These questions, as asked earlier, are posed for a reason. We have no idea what we are working with. Without that information, troubleshooting is nearly impossible. In addition, if this is indeed a 10-year old system, any number of failures could have occurred (I would start with the power supply itself). You have to help us, help you. That is how this forum thing works. Else, find a local PC repair source.
Do you want the device to power down instead of displaying a shutdown notification? Perhaps consider downloading the portable version for Windows to a USB drive, running it without installation. It could generate a system report of the hardware and log sensor data. Typically, sensors indicate red when in critical condition. You shouldn't expect a PSU failure, but you might be able to verify voltage levels or overall health. Using USB storage allows running and saving the data, which could help with further analysis.
