This could be overheating, so the first thing to do is check the temperatures.
HWMonitor (free) is a useful tool for this because it shows all the temperature sensors.
Start by examining the CPU temperatures. Expand that part so you can see each core individually. Then check the GPU temperatures. If you're unsure what the numbers mean, consider taking a screenshot.
