I own a brand new Asus Tuf FA507 (Ryzen 9 7940HS, Nvidia 4060, 16GB RAM) and it tends to shut down unexpectedly. I've turned off sleep mode twice across different power plans and set the lid to remain closed without action. Normally it stays off when the lid is closed. However, once I close the lid and unplugged it, it powers on right away. Now it's impossible to get it to wake up normally—even after changing settings to prevent sleep. Recently, after plugging it back in after a short delay, it still went to sleep instantly. The worst part is I can't wake it from sleep at all, not even by pressing the power button or using the sleep feature. It only rebooted when I unplugged it and waited about ten minutes. Now the settings show it should never sleep under any of the three power plans. This isn't something I've experienced with a laptop before; I usually build desktops and haven't had such issues.
Software configurations you adjust in the power plan can cause unexpected behavior. Look for any unnecessary bloat from the manufacturer and remove it. Restart the settings again. Keep in mind that notebooks have a distinct mode for being connected versus unplugged.
The sleep mode remains set to never, as shown in the photo—check the BIOS for any specific settings. Usually I focus on overclocking, but this laptop doesn’t offer that option. I’ve already adjusted the AMD graphics to disable it, switching it from the 4070 to a different GPU. Now everything runs smoothly and gaming looks great.
Have you checked the advanced power settings? There aren’t many choices, but it’s worth exploring and adjusting them according to your needs.
Absolutely, I did it too. It’s configured to stay active in performance, silent, and balanced modes—everything is set to avoid shutdown.
This image doesn't show any "lid closed" feature. You're also unsure about the settings in your BIOS/UEFI. Each brand has its own interface and naming conventions—often varying by category. I usually read through all the pages yourself, looking for relevant options and making adjustments if needed. You might need to do the same here.
Same, and most important even. Notebooks don’t have standard BIOS settings. It’s as if all manufacturers just tweak them to disable useful features. So notebook BIOSes are unpredictable. You never really know what to expect. But it’s always quite restricted. As @Budget DIY mentioned, look for ‘lid close’ and ‘power button press’ actions. If you haven’t done that yet, press the WIN key then type “control panel” and pick it from the list. Then go to System and Security. In the Power Options area, choose what the power buttons should do.
yup as i said i already have everything set to do nothing or never sleep but here is a pic for proof lol also I'm about to go to a meeting so i don't have time to wander around in the BIOS but ill take a look in there later and take a couple pics for y'all.
I considered the factors like consistency, relevance, and user needs before deciding.
