They noticed varied responses when disconnecting the device, and these configurations differ. There seems to be at least one problem here. I don’t use laptops anymore, but my PC never had a sleep button. Still, I’d check the available options (ignoring the lid-related issues).
Notebook power schemes are divided into two parts—one connected to power, one on battery. It functions as intended when plugged in. On battery mode with lid closed, it enters standby. When switched off, it remains in standby without doing anything. The unusual behavior is why the OPs notebook still goes to sleep even though it can’t wake from it. I think there’s a setting for an alternate sleep mode that might cause this issue. I found it and tried changing to that option. (after your meeting ofcourse.) @airborne spoon
They acted differently when the power was on versus off. When using wall power, they would close the lid, take out the power brick, then open the lid and attempt to use a button. The response varied compared to doing the same without unplugging. Probably worth checking other settings, such as BIOS/UEFI, for more options.
In the documentation, the only power-related feature I observed was the ErP setting, which I had already disabled. On Windows, there isn’t any hybrid sleep option available.
