Last night my dad needed some mp3s from this DVD, so I connected the reader to my laptop (Lenovo Yoga 7 16 AMD 7735U). It didn’t recognize it, so I tried again. I learned the device needs a separate power adapter because it uses a barrel-type plug. After plugging it in, the laptop shut down immediately. I unplugged it, restarted, and it still didn’t work. When testing with a USB stick, it also failed to detect the port. Later, I wanted to listen to music via headphones (left side jack) but got no sound. I disconnected the battery for 12 hours and tried once more, but the audio drivers still didn’t work. Now the laptop is out of warranty. What should I do to fix this or replace it? The model is: LINK

Did you take the adapter that came with the DVD reader? Was there a possibility you chose one that didn't match the required specifications?

One that wasn't included with the DVD player since I've had this for about 20 years and lost the original version.

Consider checking the device manager for any malfunctioning ports and verify all required components. Try connecting a known working USB device to see if the manager acknowledges it. Also, test if the speakers function properly.

Yes, the other ports function correctly, except for the one I used with the reader. Also, the speakers work fine.

I’ve repeated the same steps before—even last year. I inserted that barrel-style power cable, but the voltage wasn’t compatible with the external DVD player. As a result, the DVD player’s capacitors began failing one by one. I also damaged a USB port on my computer; the best fix would be to take it to a specialist who works with motherboards. It seems something might have damaged the board, and a replacement part will be required.

It was a perfect match, thank you! I'm glad it wasn't the only one.

The top patchwork fix I can suggest while you wait for the port repair is a USB C hub. It provides quicker data speeds and lets you upgrade your USB options. Still, after checking the laptop’s site, I’m wondering what the (1x always on) setting actually does.

Consider it this way, it might have been much worse and you could easily manage with a faulty USB port.
