I mentioned turning off the microphone by disconnecting the "Headset" channel. I've already attempted this, but it doesn't resolve the problem.

how about Control Panel > Sound and Hardware > Devices and Printers and trying something there? there may be option to disable handsfree on the device

I had already attempted that before. Still, I reinstalled Windows a sixth time. Right now, everything seems to function properly, but I'll keep you informed if issues return.
