Device fails to start from a bootable Windows 7 USB or DVD drive.
Hi, I'm having trouble setting up Windows 7 on this old computer. So far, only a Vista bootable DVD has worked. The machine runs MSI 848P Neo-V Maxtor 4R080L0 TSST Corp CDDVDW SH (model not sure). It also uses AMIBIOS v6.2. Everything else seems fine—DVD, USB stick, optical drive, and Windows 7 ISO are all functioning. Got any suggestions or ideas?
The parts are quite outdated, the motherboard dates back to 2006. However, the whole PC was assembled about two or three days ago (I'm trying to dispose of all my old gear while building and selling new ones). I think it can boot from a USB, but it's only working now in some odd way. Probably only a successful boot happened with a Vista installation DVD.
I'll verify whether the board supports booting from the USB drive. I've got a 2011 laptop that won't start from a USB, which is really frustrating...
I've already attempted to start from a USB multiple times but it didn't work... So should I rely solely on the optical drive now?
You might want to test another operating system. If it fails, it’s likely you’ll need a DVD.
