I bought a Ryzen 5 3600 from eBay as an upgrade for my existing CPU, which was a Ryzen 5 1600. The new processor arrived today, and I disassembled my computer to install it carefully, avoiding any static buildup. During the first test, the PC failed to boot. I attempted to re-seat components, checked the CMOS battery, but eventually gave up. Notably, my motherboard lights activated, yet pressing either the case power button or the motherboard power button had no effect. I decided to reinstall the old CPU, only to find that the system wouldn’t start with it too. I suspected the EPS cable or the motherboard input might be damaged during disassembly. Because my fingers were too large and not very precise, I asked my sister to handle the removal, though she lacked technical expertise. The cable and motherboard appeared intact, but I know appearance doesn’t guarantee proper function. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Verify the updated CPU for bent pins. Update your motherboard BIOS to the newest version, then test the new CPU.

I haven't updated the bios yet. I also haven't pulled the CMOS battery for more than a minute.

Right now I’m unable to refresh the BIOS since the computer won’t even power on. I didn’t do it beforehand because my research suggested it’s safe to check the CPU functionality without updating the BIOS first. I removed the CMOS battery for a short while.

Removing the battery briefly isn't sufficient. Resetting the CMOS usually requires a few minutes to confirm. Verify all connections are correct, paying attention to the EPS power (CPU 12V) and ensuring the 24-pin connector is securely attached to the motherboard...

Reset the CMOS, reinstall the 1600, and allow the system to boot depending on your motherboard—this might take a while and could cause it to restart several times. If it doesn’t start, remove one RAM module and attempt to power up again. Also, check the diagnostic LED indicators on the motherboard; note how many flashes they make and refer to the manual for the corresponding code.
