I played several low-quality RPG Maker titles and they worked smoothly on both storage devices. The Metal Gear Solid V issue appeared only on the HDD, while my SSD showed no problems. It looks like the HDD might be the cause. I’m curious how this is impacting my file explorer and Windows since it’s installed on the SSD. Also, I noticed that CrystalDisk and chkdsk can’t detect drive failure, and my desktop image sometimes turns black even though shortcuts stay visible. When an app needs permission to modify something, instead of just dimming the background, the screen around the window goes dark.
Chkdsk isn't very dependable for checking HDD health. I'd begin by taking out the HDD and see if that fixes the problem in Windows. Also run a scan using strong antivirus tools such as Kaspersky or Malwarebytes to look for malware. It seems to me the HDD is failing and is causing the OS to slow down while it tries to access data on it.
I recently got a new SSD and it really fixed the problem. My old HDD was causing issues, but I played RDR2 for two hours straight without any freezes! Thanks to both of you for your assistance!
