Your system has been acting strangely lately. Games would freeze then restart after a few seconds, or it would crash completely. At first I thought the hard drive was the issue, but checking its health with CrystalDiskInfo showed no problems and the disk was reported as healthy. I ran chkdsk in CMD without issues, and even after defragmenting and using Windows Disk Optimizer on the SSD, the same behavior persisted. After reinstalling Windows and updating BIOS, the problems continue. I've tried everything I could think of, but I'm unsure what's causing this. Usually my PC runs smoothly, so it's puzzling. Any suggestions?
What game you're playing and your system details? Also, how much room is available on your storage?
In Rainbow 6 Siege and Red Dead Redemption 2 I've observed these trends. I maxed out Elden Ring but didn't face the same issue, only played for around 15 minutes. All systems are set on the HDD C drive with 58 of 250 gigabytes free, the D drive has 403 of its 2TB capacity, and my RTX 3060 Ti is running at 5600x with a 650-watt PSU.
I once had a Gigabyte X370 with occasional memory problems similar to yours. It would suddenly stop accepting a memory card or drop back to the base 2133Mhz speed, causing the system to run slow and stutter. You might want to reinstall all memory cards and update your chipset. Resetting the BIOS could also help determine if the issue is resolved. If that doesn’t work, we can explore other options together.
Tracking current conditions: temperatures, CPU and GPU usage. Checked if I attempted a disk defragmentation.
As discussed earlier, I cleaned up and improved both storage devices. Temperatures are now excellent—received a top-notch Noctua cooler. In RDR2 the CPU never exceeded 70°C, and the GPU stayed around 70°C as well. Checked with HWMonitor, of course! CPU idle usage is only 2-4%, GPU idle is 0%, and in-game CPU usage ranges from 55% to 70%, while GPU utilization sits between 70% and 85%.
I haven't faced memory issues where recognition fails or XMP shuts down unexpectedly. After using this board for around five years, those problems seem unlikely. I haven't upgraded to the newest chipset yet, but I'm willing to give it a try. I'll also attempt a BIOS reset.
Consider relocating the smallest game to SSD and see the effect.
It could be any number of factors at play, which is annoying when it happens. Other suggestions include checking the game files, resetting the cache, using a different GPU driver, switching to another storage device, or reinstalling the application.
