Discussing this thread on a related topic is useful. The differences in configuration between the Zen4 3D CPU and its 3D CCD are notable, something confirmed yesterday. I’m attaching that earlier discussion for context, as I’ve collected information from a down-configured 7950x3D setup. Because these CPUs vary, it would be helpful to name the down-configured R9 models in a way that clearly indicates their purpose. Some ideas I’ve considered so far: Since the 7600x3D doesn’t exist but could, the 7900x3D with CCD1 off (just 3D CCD0) could be labeled 7600x3D, 7650x3D, or 7690x3D. The main issue is that few people know the maximum boost clock for the CPU’s 3D v-cache. Based on the benchmarks I’ve seen, it seems similar to the 7800x3D at a 50.5x multiplier compared to the 7950x3D’s 52.5x. For the 7950x3D with CCD1 off, possible options are 7850x3D or 7890x3D. Any thoughts on these suggestions or better alternatives? Another option could be 7950x3D-8 or 7900x3D-6, following a similar adjustment pattern but in the opposite direction.

These codes indicate the specific CCD that remains active.

This idea looks promising. The main point is balancing configurations without fully disabling a CCD, which is why they opted for a symmetrical setup like 7900x3D with a 6+6 layout. Regarding the naming scheme, it would help if readers knew that CCD0 always represents the full 3D configuration, not just a subset.

Actually, that reminded me of the fact that we have an established shorthand: X+Y So 7950X3D 8+0 would be the full CCD0. 7950X3D 4+4 would be each with half cores disabled. 2+6 would be 2 on CCD0 and 6 on CCD1. That's already how people have described it in the past. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I'm preparing to evaluate the differences between the 7800x3D and 7950x3D 8+0 models by comparing them side by side with my friend's build. I'm also planning to test a 6+6 configuration against a 7900x3D, though detailed data on that setup is limited. My recent testing focused on boosting clock speeds before encountering the hard multiplier restrictions.

Exciting to hear about the 7800x3d! Let me know which setup you're using for a side-by-side test. I'm ready to help with your 7700x comparison and aim for that 5.5GHz target this weekend.

Are you focusing on handling all core tasks? I’d prefer to skip boosting clocks for longer single-core gains, as that seems more relevant for gaming performance. I’m interested in checking if someone can achieve a 7800x3D to 5.05GHz with sufficient cooling and a properly adjusted PBO curve without resorting to full overclocking.

The 7800x3D remains available on Newegg, which raises questions about the timing of its release. It seems the delay might have been due to securing sufficient volume for a major launch. In contrast, the 7950x3D sold quickly, within just an hour.

I'll try a single core setup. Games really appreciate a strong single core, but as multi-threaded gaming becomes more common, when does extra all-core performance matter? Absolutely, I'm keen to grab one on the way home. Their availability feels especially solid right now.

In the worst scenario, the 7700x could be readily repurposed for a desktop or workstation CPU. Many overlook its integrated GPU, making it suitable for budget workstations without a dedicated graphics card—something different from earlier X or standard Ryzen models.
