DDR4 works just fine, but DDR5 presents a completely different challenge. Neither system excels at it even with the JEDEC suggested 4800C40 rate. If you really need DDR5 and lots of storage, the best move now is to purchase the latest 2x48GB modules that are becoming available.
Opt for a DDR4 4x32 setup, but the quad-rank DDR5 won’t run smoothly. If you need more memory, consider AMD EPYC options—they have significantly lower single-core performance even with overclocked CPUs. For speed, simply boost the IMC voltage and aim for around 4000 MHz in gear 1. A microchip with a 16Gb rev B kit works well because it’s efficient on the IMC. The second unit will likely reach 4600-4800 MHz, but exceeding 4800 is risky based on current experience. Safe limit is about 1.45V; going beyond could harm stability, but I’m willing to take that chance.
