DDR3 VS DDR4
DDR3 VS DDR4
Mostly only DDR3 SODIM memory is being made, probably just older stock available now, which explains the higher prices.
Several high demand DDR3 models are expected to hold value, similar to premium components. When they launched, these parts were costly, just like the 2, 3, and 4 generations. DDR5 is likely to follow a similar pricing trend at its debut. AMD plans to push DDR5 using HBM or comparable memory technologies, aiming to outpace Intel in this transition. They’ve already proven they can beat Intel in this space before.
DDR3 launched in July, with Samsung's initial prototype coming out in May. Clock speeds varied from 800 to 2133 MHz, effective between 400 and 1066 MHz. Timing settings spanned from 5-5-5 to 14-14-14 based on frequency, showing tighter speeds at higher rates. I used a good collection of Mushkin RedLines capable of 1100 MHz (effective) with settings 9-10-9-27-36 at 2T. Tested on the AMD FX platform.
