For average users DDR3 and DDR4 are merely distinct memory modules with specific connectors. A DDR3 slot won’t fit on a board that supports DDR4, and vice versa. DDR4 versions tend to offer greater capacity, higher speeds, reduced latency, improved power efficiency, and so on. DDR5 remains uncertain at the moment—no confirmed hardware support or production yet. It’s still a distant concept, except that 5 follows 4, right?

I concur with @Electronics Wizardy; ddr3 isn’t compatible on newer systems. Ddr5 is expected to launch in late Q4 2020 or early Q1 2021, meaning purchasing ddr3 now would place you at the level of ddr2 in about three to four months.

@JM21 Haha, you're asking if DDR3 costs more now than DDR4 since it's running low?

Yes, DDR3 hasn't been utilized recently, and it seems it might not have been updated for a while too.

It hasn't been released yet; it was planned for next year, and according to my understanding, sk Hynix is working on it, not Samsung as previously mentioned.
