I understand that for motherboards you can install a USB and flash it via BIOS. Regarding the SSD, it’s a .exe file. Since you’re currently using Linux, I’m curious if you can run it through Wine without damaging your SSD. For the motherboard, it’s a Gigabyte micro ATX B450M instead of the ASUS model I mentioned earlier; I’ve updated the BIOS already.
The performance really depends on the cable quality, particularly for older models. I have a SATA cable that came with an old Dell system connected to a DVD drive—it's much slower than expected (around 150mb/s, which is typical for SATA 1 speeds). These types of cables are not rare, yet still fairly widespread.
