For systems with 16 GB or less, configure a page file sized at least 1.5 times the RAM. If you enable fixed size, increase it to 2x or higher for mechanical drives to reduce latency and improve speed. SSDs don’t gain much from fixed page files, but aim for a minimum of 1x-1.5x and let it grow as needed. With 32 GB or more, maintaining a page file of 8-16 GB is advisable. The page file serves purposes beyond just caching applications—it stores fonts, icons, and other data used by Windows, freeing up RAM for active programs. Retrieving these assets from the page file is quicker than accessing numerous files, saving time and resources.
