I changed my laptop to Windows 10 1803 today from 1709, and since then the performance tab in Task Manager shows the CPU usage around 25-40%, while the details tab says it's idle at 90% or more. That doesn’t add up—something must be consuming that CPU time. I tried disabling the indexing service, but it keeps running. I’m not sure what’s using it, even though the temperature reading in the details tab suggests otherwise. Any suggestions?

Keeping it fresh, probably. Setting up or gathering data...

Use the Resource Monitor to see hidden processes. It often reveals activities not visible in Task Manager. Likely Windows is still working behind the scenes after the update. It may be checking for updates, installing them, scanning for viruses, indexing data, or sharing your private info with Microsoft.

It’s surprising how things turned out. After days of trying various solutions, nothing seemed to work until I decided to restart it one last time. It worked perfectly. This probably wasn’t a widespread problem—if it were 1803 or more people would have noticed already. Still, it’s strange how it felt like a personal issue rather than something affecting everyone.

Hey @GoodBytes and @Ryan_Vickers, just wanted to say I didn’t run into any problems with 1803 beyond the typical Windows 10 annoyances I’ve grumbled about for a long time.

This revision was unexpectedly smooth for my system's headache.

It seems I got caught up too quickly... I managed several smooth minutes with the performance I once had, but now it’s slipping back to a sluggish state with constant CPU usage above 25%. By this point, it feels like someone is observing me and switching the problem on and off while I’m reporting it.

From what I observed, there’s no update or installation happening, and nothing is being indexed or scanned for viruses. I checked the Resource Monitor, but it didn’t offer further details.

Navigate to Settings > System Display > Notifications & actions. Turn off "Get tips, tricks and suggestions as you use Windows." Access the registry, locate the START key, update its value to 4, then restart the system.

I noticed different names for the services. It seems you're referring to "TimeBrokerSvc" and "TokenBroker." Are you wondering about their functions or if they're just turning off something?
