Critical Assistance Needed! OC GPU Issues with Windows
Hi Guys,
So I just upgraded many parts in my PC.
I'm using gtx1080 with msi z170 motherboard.
I installed msi afterburner for OC a few days ago.
Today I went crazy and for no reason added extra to the core and memory clocks to the gpu and turned off auto.
After I clicked apply the whole display went blank.
Now everytime I restart the PC it goes into Windows 10 and after a split second display turns blank again.
I've tried everything to stop this from happening but nothing's working including:
- remove all connections from gpu card and try to use the motherboards hdmi connection. Doesn't display anything.
- Trying to boot into safe mode:
On bios screen tried pressing F11 and choosing to restart with more options. When it restarts and displays 10 options to choose from my sub keyboard doesn't function on this screen at all. I've tried unplugging and plugging in again, lights turn on keyboard but keys don't do anything.
I'm all out of options
🙁
Please can someone recommend what I can to fix this?
In the boot menu of Windows 10 I can get to the command prompt but I don't know if there is a command I can type here to force reload into safe mode?
I have a feeling everytime I'm restarting into Windows msi afterburner is auto starting and setting the parameters I chose earlier.
Thanks for the help.
When attempting to link the keyboard or mouse, connect them to a USB 2.0 port whenever feasible. In certain situations, the USB drivers aren't activated until the operating system is loaded, meaning any connected peripherals won't function if the OS isn't running. This could explain why your keyboard isn't working, even though I believed Skylake had resolved this problem.
enter the bios and delete the overclock setting
it says it can't—software did the GPU overclock, not the CPU, so it can't fix this in bios
@mcnumpty23, you genius!!! Thanks a lot!! That fixed my 2 hours of panic and sweating.
Sorry I chose your second answer as the solution when I should have picked your first one

Not related to this topic as the problem is solved, but I wanted to overclock because after the upgrade my GPU keeps reaching 84c temperature and 99% usage. That definitely shouldn't happen all the time! I didn't have software to check before, so I couldn't compare. I'm doing some CPU overclocking from the BIOS, but I'm sure that shouldn't affect the GPU either?
