I've been using my gaming laptop for a while now, and every time I plug it in, the CPU drops to 0.79ghz right away and stays there. It's a Dell G7 7588 with an Intel I7-8750H, GTX 1060 Max Q, and 8GB RAM. The support from Dell seems ineffective, and I haven't found any fixes online.

The laptop activates power-saving settings automatically when it is not connected to a power source.

Verify the Maximum Processor State stays at or above 100% in your Windows power plan settings. Also, confirm the profile that will be used when the device is not connected to a power source.

It's understandable to feel frustrated with such performance issues. The slow speed and limited processing power can make everyday tasks difficult. You're right to question the specifications—higher speeds are often achievable with better hardware or optimization. Raising the processor to at least 2GHz would likely require upgrading components or using a more powerful system.

It's great to hear that! Your setup is optimized for peak performance.

It performs perfectly at 100% battery life but still shows significant lag and caps at 0.79.

Use ThrottleStop to turn off BD PROCHOT, which is Dell's usual throttling technique. If that doesn't resolve the issue, access the Limit Reasons window and run the built-in TS Bench with a single-threaded workload. A load of one thread is sufficient. Please share some screenshots so I can assist further.

In one thread it reached about 1.2ghz, but with 12 threads it consistently hovered around 0.79ghz. I want it to maintain roughly 2ghz or higher for smoother performance.

I experienced the same issue on my desktop, linked to the motherboard BIOS auto overclocking feature. When this "auto overclocking" profile was active, my 7800X would automatically lower its clock speed to 700 or 800 MHz across all cores and become stuck there. It might be beneficial to reset your laptop's BIOS back to the default settings to determine if that resolves the problem. Best of luck!
