I just installed a Ryzen 5 3600 and it didn’t post. I removed the cooler, took the CPU out, and it stuck to the cooler. After reinserting it, it still wouldn’t post. I’m wondering how to get the CPU to heat up properly so it doesn’t come out again. It seems the stock thermal paste might be the issue.

You might boost performance by executing a stress test such as Prime95, performing CPU benchmarks like Cinebench multiple times, or using a demanding game before attempting to take off the cooling solution.

I don't believe that's the reason, which is why I need a second-gen or first-gen unit to install the BIOS. But I'm worried about the CPU getting affected by the cooler.

Typically it's safe. As long as every pin is present and aligned correctly, everything should work fine. Unless you force the CPU out while it's powered on… that could be a dangerous method to remove it.

I didn't power it on, it was secured, so I couldn't move a pin or bend anything. The CPU should have a tiny space between the cover and the board?
