CPU lodged onto the heat sink
CPU lodged onto the heat sink
It seems there should be no space between the IHS and PCB, but it looks like it’s still in the motherboard assembly and it’s almost midnight for you.
ah fack it just has a small gap all the way round from my memory it's been a few days since i've tried anything with it.
Maybe I'm not sure anymore, I've been overthinking it. I spent most of my money on this.
The CPU seems fine in my view. To confirm, I’d like to check it out. Also, others have successfully removed AMD CPUs from their sockets before. Most work well afterward. I’ve done a few myself. The key is to gently twist or slide the heatsink off rather than pulling straight up—now you’re in the know! Humans learn through trial and error. The BIOS update might be the real cause of the problem. The best way to verify is buying a Ryzen Athlon 200ge, which works with any AMD AM4 board regardless of BIOS version. You can also use this chip without a GPU to rule out future issues or for a BIOS update. It’s useful for diagnostics. You might also get a BIOS update/recovery package via their RMA—usually free, though shipping costs may apply. https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100
Sure thing, I'm here for you. It's understandable to feel anxious about this situation, especially since it's your first build. If something goes wrong, the system should shut down immediately, which it does not. The PC remains operational until you decide to turn it off. Thanks for reaching out. I've spoken with a local PC shop who might be able to install a Ryzen 2nd gen or 1st generation board and update the BIOS—this could help. If that doesn't work, consider replacing the board entirely. Since this was my third choice for the B450, it's not ideal. I hope you can get your money back on the unit you received.
For future AMD 4000 upgrades, you'll need a B550 or X570 motherboard. If you're not planning a upgrade within the next year or so, a B450 is still an option. Make sure the seller confirms their BIOS supports your chip—otherwise it's a letdown. Many users have shared similar frustrations on this forum.
Sure, I'm keeping the B450 for now—it's more affordable. I was really looking forward to it since it's my early birthday gift, which falls on the 18th.
Are there nearby stores that can reset or change the BIOS settings? Have we confirmed whether the problem lies with the BIOS?
