Hey, I'm running a 10700k + 3080ti and it's been great since launch. I play on 4K and need an upgrade soon. I already have someone interested in my old parts, but I'll have to sell them before Christmas for a nephew. Time is tight. I'm torn between Intel and a new Ryzen 7 9700x. The 15th-gen model is coming up, but it might be pricier and have early issues. I'm not sure about going back to AMD since FX chips worked fine before, but I'm open to it. Should I take the 14700k risk, wait for the 15th-gen, or give up on AMD altogether? Need solid reasons for any choice.

The top gaming CPU available today is the 7800X3D. It's hard to tell which reviews you've seen, but Zen 5 is only a slight improvement over Zen 4. Usually, it's wiser to choose Zen 4 (like the 7700X instead of the 9700X) because you'll get similar performance at a lower cost.

I have a 7700X and intend to upgrade to the 9800X3D when it comes out. If I owned a 7800X3D, I wouldn't make the change.
14700K: might be broken, so why bother? The main reason to buy one is the better productivity performance over the 7800X3D, so there's little point taking on that risk for a gamer when the 7800X3D is so good. 15th gen: who knows, but since you're waiting awhile to sell your stuff, hopefully there will be a lot more information on the price/performance by then. 9700X: unholy Windows update batman, I have no idea if this CPU is worth buying right now because making a reliable comparison is so difficult. If you do anything with AVX512 then I'd definitely buy it, but that's the only time I can say 100%.
When I mention upgrading to the 9800X3D, I feel confident about it. The 7700X meets my needs perfectly, and I’m using a 4080. My 7700X handles everything well, and I just want to upgrade because I really want to, not out of necessity. I’m a hardware enthusiast.
It seems I was checking the incorrect listings for the 7800X3D... It kept showing up at $599 at NewEgg and a few other stores, which made me realize the real price when I checked PC part picker. So I’m going to go with the 7800X3D. If Intel’s 15th gen is a major breakthrough, I might think about it. Thanks everyone!
