Current setup uses a B450M chipset. I mainly run Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, play CSGO, League, triple A games, and mod Skyrim (around 1020 mods). I need faster rendering, especially in After Effects, and higher FPS in games. I’m considering the 5900X over the 5800X because it offers more cores and threads, which could help with rendering times. It’s tough deciding between these two options.

This would be my recommendation if I didn’t consider the specific motherboard you’re using (please note the brand in future updates—there are two B450M-A variants, but they’re both underwhelming). The 5900X delivers near-optimal VRM performance for its AM5 design, especially considering the power demands of the GPU. Given its capacity, it’s unlikely to throttle during rendering even with active cooling. If you decide to stick with the 5900X, consider upgrading your board at the same time. A platform upgrade to something like the 13500 or a lower-end B760M/B7700X would likely provide better value and performance overall. Keep in mind that while the 5800X3D doesn’t throttle on this board, maintaining proper VRM airflow remains important for long-term health. For rendering tasks, the 5700X and 5800X still offer higher clock speeds, making them faster options if you prioritize raw speed over stability.

If I upgrade to a newer platform, it would exceed £500, requiring additional ddr5 RAM and a preference for AMD. Considering your input, I’m likely to choose the 5800X3D for optimal performance—balancing high FPS and improved rendering times. My system already has six fans and an excellent assassin 120 SE, so cooling should be manageable.

Many reviews highlight the 5900X as a solid choice. It's adjustable and performs well in games. I favor the 5900X instead of the 5800X3D. I don't play at 1080p resolution.

It would really benefit from direct airflow with an 8-core processor; this board is built for much lower power than expected. Even 50W feels a bit excessive. For more demanding tasks, a dedicated fan aimed toward the VRM area is necessary. If this is the ASUS model, I wouldn't rely on it due to limited temperature monitoring capabilities. It's better to assume their OTP safeguards aren't reliable without verification. For MSI boards, I still wouldn't recommend them, but having VRM sensors would provide extra confidence during long sessions. A 5700X with a used, solid motherboard might offer better value for peace of mind.

Surely... I missed the board. Running a 12-core setup there would be risky. Still, I have a bit of pride in myself.

I wouldn't choose the 5900x on your 5800x3d board for games, preferring 5900x for rendering. I considered changing a 5950x to 5800x3d slightly, but I opted not to.

Sure, I do have Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3600MHZ RAM. It's indeed quicker than 5900x.
