Hello everyone, just checking if Windows 10 is currently a suitable option for upgrades. I mainly play games and want to confirm there are no lingering driver or performance problems from the new OS. Anyone experiencing issues with Windows 10? Have you had past problems that are now resolved?

I’ve only got positive feedback about W10 gaming. There’s never been any performance problems or games that didn’t work on modern operating systems before—unless I followed the same troubleshooting steps as on W7. I do have a friend who uses an Nvidia card and says it’s “laggy,” though he’s not a big Microsoft fan. I haven’t seen that happen myself, but if you can upgrade, there’s no reason not to.

Windows 10 is fully resolved with no lingering problems. It performs significantly better on older systems. Proceed!

TP-Link WiFi drivers aren't fully available yet, so LAN gatherings aren't possible. Edit: you can go back if needed. No issues detected.

Let me clarify the situation. I’ve encountered several issues, including software glitches, connectivity problems, and performance slowdowns. You don’t necessarily need a full reinstall—just updating drivers and following the upgrade steps should resolve most concerns.

Apologies for the delayed response. I recommend proceeding with the upgrade if you wish to retain your existing files or programs without starting over. My upgrade process was quite fast and there were no problems.

I view the Linux Tech Tips community as an inconsistent platform for recommending operating systems. Members often push trends without solid reasoning, seemingly treating OS updates as a race rather than a thoughtful choice. Here are some points to keep in mind: Windows 10 edges out Windows 7 mainly in boot speed, but performance differences elsewhere are minimal. In practice, Windows 10 doesn’t significantly improve on Windows 7 for everyday tasks—sometimes it even lags behind, especially with certain applications. While not inherently flawed, Windows 10 retains some older issues from previous versions. Comparing it to Windows 7 is like saying a slightly less polished version is better just because it’s newer. My experience shows Windows 10 feels more constrained compared to the improved usability of Windows 7, with a less refined interface and hidden services. Upgrading can be tricky; a clean install is often necessary to avoid lingering problems. Ultimately, the value of an OS depends on how it fits your specific needs, which can only be determined by personal use.
