Not every B450 board is worthless; they vary in quality. It’s not unfair to these boards when the CPU draws 100-150 watts, such as with a third-gen Ryzen 5 or 7.

The quality B450 boards are significantly more affordable. At first, I thought the mid-range options cost between $100 and $120, so I opted to invest in a better x570 model such as the Gigabyte Aorus Elite.

The most affordable motherboard with PCIe 4.0 I discovered was the MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS, costing an extra $93 beyond my budget. Now I might delay a bit—perhaps two months—and purchase it, or opt for the GIGABYTE AORUS B450 ELITE instead.

I own an i3 7100 that can't manage what I'm trying to do anymore, and I really think upgrading is necessary right now.

The price usually ranges from $100 to $120. If the board exceeds 85% of the CPU value—like over 3600—that’s even more problematic compared to the 62% benchmark. Around $50 covers a 3000MHz-3200MHz CL16 with 2x8GB memory, which is comparable to upgrading from a 500GB SSD to a 1TB SSD, getting a solid cooler to swap in for the Wraith Stealth, or buying enough fans to fill a case completely. Upgrading the 1660ti to a 2060 is also feasible within that budget. A decent power supply can be found for about $50.
