Hello, I'm trying to choose the best CPU for gaming on my upgraded PC. I have several options: Ryzen 5 3600, Ryzen 5 3600X, Ryzen 7 2700, and Ryzen 7 2700X (the latter is the most affordable at $170). I also plan to get an RTX 2060 with 6GB RAM. If I pick the Ryzen 7 2700, I can afford a Super 8GB version of the RTX 2060. My power supply is a Segotep H9 Plus 520W.

The Ryzen 3000 line is clearly the top choice among these options. I own a Ryzen 2700x that I rely on for gaming and encoding, and I’m really satisfied with it.

I think the best option was the 3600 model. There was only a discussion about comparing the 2700x to the 3600, and it seemed like we narrowed it down to a few possibilities. As long as things are fair, unless you can find a better deal—like a $150 discount or less—I’d likely choose the 3600. A $20–30 difference might matter more to you than it does to me.

Aim for the 3600—it's currently offering excellent value. It outperforms the 2700 in speed and matches it in multithreaded tasks. The higher instruction throughput of the third-gen Ryzen boosts gaming results. Expect a clock speed near 200, making it worth the price difference. If you can't choose, opt for the 2700 or Super instead. But if you want top performance, go with the 3600 and the Super. Alternatively, look into the 5700 from AMD, which should be more affordable than the 2060S while still delivering strong performance and fitting your budget.

I'll keep this note. The other CPUs appear in the charts as well. The GPU shown here is significantly stronger than the 2060.

I planned to take the 5700, yet I've noticed plenty of recent feedback on BSOD and crashes.

Which motherboard suits them? Ryzen 7s require stronger boards for peak performance. Third generation models offer better handling of higher frame rates—act like low-clocked Intel Coffee Lake CPUs.

Sure, the AMD drivers could use some further development, which is disappointing. However, they remain among the top value options. I believe most users aren't facing major issues with the 5700 series, though those in the unlucky group might find it quite frustrating. Nivida drivers aren't flawless, but they tend to be more reliable and have had more time to address any problems due to their longer availability.
