You can't swap your board and still install the OS. Or at least keep using the same key. I’d really like a newer motherboard plus RAM, but the i7 you mentioned isn’t very recent or much faster. What’s your budget looking like? The 3770k chip is the fastest option for your board.

3770k leads the way, yet it's wise to set aside funds for a better system. The third generation is almost outdated.

3770K keeps working even when you can overclock it. If you can't, it's still decent. I own a 3770K and it performs okay—it's not a cutting-edge setup, but it's far from a top-tier machine, which is what people often claim.

Usually, you can stick with the same operating system, transfer it to the new setup, and configure it as the bootable drive, while Windows handles most driver updates for you.

I was facing the same situation with two 1155 systems. Running at 3770K, I reached 4.5GHz and at 1080p 60Hz, paired with a 1080 Ti I’m comfortable with. An alternative is choosing an 1155 Xeon. Back then they were much more affordable ($40 or less) for four cores and eight threads. You can’t overclock them, but you gain extra threads through hyperthreading at a lower cost. The current market price might have increased their value, though. Still, it’s significantly cheaper than replacing your whole setup. If you’re upgrading for gaming, it really depends on your games and target frame rate—older chips will likely cap powerful GPUs. But if you’re only aiming for 60FPS, that’s less important. Consider the Xeon e3-1240 V2 (or its variants). Only models with a 5th generation integrated graphics are worth it; each upgrade adds roughly another 100MHz across all cores. Edit: I realized your motherboard isn’t a Z-series, so overclocking won’t work there. Skip the 3770K—it’s a waste of money. Your best path is one of the Xeons or a full upgrade.
