I installed something unusual on my parents' old 10-year-old computer with a 250GB hard drive, and it's working well. If I remember correctly about Windows 10, the more powerful your machine is, the better it handles it.

This differs from previous Windows releases where updates would accumulate. New versions incorporate earlier updates automatically.

I'm in favor of choosing Windows 10, especially if upgrading is necessary. All the issues I've faced with Windows 10 personally or with others stem from upgrading from an older version. A fresh installation should eliminate those problems.

It's okay if you're willing to lose some files, a new setup is definitely the way to go. Windows 10 comes with most recent updates already on the installation disk. With Windows 8.1, you'd need to spend a lot of time or days getting updates.

Windows 10 has been refined to work on compact storage drives. I've set it up on a machine with just 32GB, and I maintain the updates. When new patches arrive, they may increase space usage slightly, but you can manage it. Since the recent Windows 7 versions, the built-in Disk Cleanup tool automatically removes leftover uninstall files from updates. On older systems lacking this feature, it can lead to significant space savings. Additionally, if you want to schedule updates for Windows 10, there are still options available, though they require a bit more work compared to the earlier version.
