Another update for the 5800X3D. It’s worth considering if you really need PCIe 4.0. If you’re okay with it, going to a B550 might be smart, though your motherboard works well with the 5800X3D. PCIe 4.0 isn’t currently beneficial, but it could matter later with direct storage support. I suggest upgrading your CPU to the 5800X3D now and planning a switch to a B550 or X570 in a few years for future compatibility.

However, in most situations the performance gap isn't obvious beyond benchmark tests.

A 3800x offers 8/16 cores, which is fast enough compared to the PS5 or Xbox to make performance differences negligible. The only scenario where extra cores matter is for heavy enterprise tasks like complex spreadsheets or creative work. For gaming, the main bottleneck is usually the GPU or display.
