Ecores become captivating without gaming. Certain features don’t work well on them, but when they do, things can get really exciting. They struggle with real-time tasks because they lag behind PCs. I have 32GB of RAM, which should suffice. I believe a 5900x or 5950x would be ideal.

Upgrading to a 7000 series would indeed cost significantly more. The 7000 series is designed for DDR5 support, not older standards.

Yes, AM5 is costly, but the 13th generation is quite affordable because it supports older DDR4 and Z690 components. If you're replacing the motherboard, using the EC-Reserves would make it worthwhile to go with the 13th gen.

Checking the model details: are you looking at a Tomahawk B450, Max, or Max II? Running the newest BIOS. While B450 boards offer solid VRM support for B450 chips, they may not suit the 5900X, which is the top AM4 CPU. Think about the 5700X instead?

KF indicates an overclock while the iGPU is removed. A quirk with KF chips is that they’re meant to be budget options, yet they attract more interest from users who already own GPUs, which drives up prices, making KF more expensive than a regular K model. The 12600 lacked ecores whereas the 12600k did. The 13600 might have ecores; if so, it’s likely a 13600k that doesn’t overclock. Ecores are single-threaded CPUs that use less power than multi-core units and don’t support multithreading, which explains the mention of 20 cores. That means roughly 6 PC cores plus 8 ecores. For gaming, 6 cores with 12 threads could be the most affordable path if the app works well on a 13600F using ecores. Updated December 7, 2022 by Bombastinator
