The maintenance was a step back. They applied a lower quality thermal paste compared to what was already there. My CPU has only 15 watts of TDP (it can rise above 30). Is a well-rated HY510 sufficient, or should I opt for the Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut—its price seems reasonable given it's an international item? What impact does this have on my setup? I’m not too concerned about lifespan unless it’s extremely low. I don’t have isopropyl alcohol. Could using a hand sanitizer be acceptable, or should I use a slightly damp microfiber cloth and cotton swabs instead? The paste is still fresh. If needed, I’ll consider purchasing one, but I want to see if other options work adequately.
You can buy 91% isopropyl alcohol for around $3 to $5 USD and pick it up yourself. I don’t recommend using hand sanitizer or plain water. It’s effective because it breaks down grime easily and dries quickly without leaving any residue. The higher the concentration, the better. For thermal paste, I usually use ARCTIC MX-4 or MX-6. I’m not sure how they stack up against other options, but they function well.
It's not necessary to worry about the thermal conductivity layer because a standard fan should suffice. The focus should be on other factors rather than the specific material used.

It mentions that because you experience quick thermal throttling, Aeronaut could be a good option. It also notes the HY510 has around 1.93 W/mk while the Aeronaut offers 8.5 W/mk, which seems impressive in theory but may not translate to actual performance. Since it does throttle under benchmarks, that was initially suggested, but real-world results differ. For everyday use at about 70°C, the Aeronaut doesn’t seem worthwhile and only provides a minor benefit of less than 2°C. I’m still unsure how much to trust this information.
an ok past vs so called best past is like maybe 2ishc maybe 3c... problem is not the past its the heatsink and fan that removes the heat is not big enough. if its a laptop there not much you can really do. would 3c help some laptops have vents on the bottom were a cooling pad would help but some have vents on the side and there is side fans you can get how well they work who knows. other then acing the room or under volting if that even doable on a laptop. fan should be 100% at thows temps.
I assume you are considering that to be high. I can't explain it very well but I think that's normal. And that is on like some heavy spikes or playing a game or something. Idk, I only benchmark peak temps. Okay so it has been a while and I have an update. I think the situation was getting worse and worse for some reason. Doing stuff on YouTube spiked the temps to TjMax. My machine also has a condition. Degradation issue, and the chances of it crashing (with my setup, it halts on error and resumes in a few secs) increase with higher and spikier temps. It totally started crashing much more frequently. I opened it up. The thermal paste applied looks dark grey (not very blackish or anything, but not lighter gray as many other pastes are). It is healthy smooth. The application of the paste looked good enough. There were some spots with less paste that I though, which I did try to fill by moving the paste and tried to collect all the paste back in the center on CPU and cooler, but after pressure and opening it back, it was like how it was originally, so everything was mostly fine before. And then, I screw everything in and boot up. Temps got much lower. I think the thermal performance after saturation is mostly equal, but the spikes and all the time before real saturation seemed greatly improved. Real world tasks also had much lower temps such as browsing. So, it was the cooler contact? This paste still I think is a bit worse than my 1 year old or so paste. The saturated performance is almost equal, but it reaches the saturation a bit quicker than my old paste. @thrasher_565 I am not looking to really push the cooling with better airflow and all. I want to get at least the thermal paste right because it is a critical part. The "okay paste" you are saying might be a really bad paste that I am considering. Again, I was comparing with HY510 with Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut. Of course the Aeronaut is better, but by how much on my system. The previous applied paste is of course no Aeronaut, and I was mostly fine with that paste, at least as compared to this mess I am in.
