Consider purchasing an RX 7800 XT or the RX 9070?
I received an RX 7800 XT GPU but encountered some problems, so I took it to a service center which informed me that this specific model is no longer available there. They are refunding the full amount I paid, which is £640, and the process should take about 3 to 4 weeks. I’m unsure whether to purchase an RX 9070 with this money plus an additional $160, or return and buy a 7800 XT for $530 and keep some extra cash. What are your opinions?
Here are the options I have in mind:
RX 7800 XT - $530
RX 7900 GRE - $724
RX 7900 XT - $735
RX 9070 - $770
RX 9070 XT - $842
RX 7900 XTX - $1056 (just for price reference in India)
I’m mainly considering the RX 9070 because it’s a newer model. I mostly play AAA games at 1440p and don’t use my PC for anything else. I’m not interested in used GPUs whose prices might change as mentioned.
9070/9070xt. If you’re on a budget I suppose you could wait for the 9060xt 16gb and see what those look like. Or you might see about the 5060ti 16gb or a 5070 on nvidia side if that’s an option. Though the 5060ti will be a bit slower than the 7800xt except in RT I’d guess.
It does sound like you will need to budget for a psu upgrade though since you’re on a 650 watt. AMDs site does say 650 watts is the requirement for the 9070 but don’t know that I want to cut that close.
I'm preparing to install a new 750watt power supply that will work with the latest graphics card.
Do you have a PSU list for your area that lets you choose what suits you best?
there are various (more or less reliable) tier lists available.
this should assist you.
generally, you should aim for an A tier PSU (no matter which tier list applies), as anything lower could be risky.
still, B tier units are acceptable if that's all you can manage.
of course, feel free to reach out and share units available in your area, and we'll evaluate them together.
