Consider buying a fresh display
I'm considering buying a new monitor, mainly because a 2k model would fit better within my budget. My existing E321VL Vizio TV, originally purchased for console gaming, is still in use. I'm evaluating this new option at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...-_-Product. Additionally, I've been looking into the BenQ model at http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-GW2765HT-27-I...B00KYCSRSG, which has an IPS panel but recent reviews mention pixel issues. I'm aiming for something similar to my current setup with improved resolution, while also keeping other possibilities in mind.
Currently I'm using a 780ti with some overclocking. I'm also considering an upgrade, which would mean getting another monitor—either 2k at 144hz or 4k at 60hz—but for now I'll keep the 60hz setup since I prefer the higher resolution. If you had a monitor that could handle 144hz at 2k for a good price, I wouldn't compromise on it.
I can't suggest a specific 144hz monitor, but I believe you might wish for one within a year or two, particularly after upgrading your graphics card.
I'm searching for a monitor around $300 to $400, and I'm still figuring out when the next GPU upgrade will occur. Would you say that better refresh rate matters more than higher resolution?
I would choose BenQ, as Acer's build quality isn't always top-notch, though they've improved recently (cheaper plastic and stands). If you're okay with a bit of a monitor upgrade, Acer offers a 2k screen at 144hz for $450. The downside is it uses a TN panel.
Running a 2K monitor at 144 refresh rate requires a video card capable of handling it. This is the 2K 60 refresh rate IPS monitor I use with a GTX 980, and I really enjoy it. The performance is excellent, with great picture quality and colors.

My review focuses on the sixth item in the list.
I would choose BenQ, as Acer's build quality isn't always top-notch, but they've improved recently (plastic casing, affordable stands, etc). If you're okay spending a bit more on a monitor, Acer offers a 2k model at 144hz for $450. The downside is it uses a TN panel.
