Will you be moving to DDR5 soon? If not, I’d recommend upgrading your RAM instead.
Performance trends have shifted, but RAM speed still plays a big role. Buying more DDR4 might not be the best move if you're targeting DDR5, as it could limit gains.
Your idle rate is low—what are you working on? It seems your requirements have evolved. Which games are you playing? Are you using Windows 10 or Windows 11? Try flipping the main and secondary screens in Windows for about an hour to see how it looks. A 1080p display might appear distorted on a 1440p screen because it doesn’t match the native resolution.
Well, if you're looking to streamline your setup, you could switch from the Discord app to a web browser tab, which would save around 500MB. It maintains the same features and I've relied on a browser tab for years—handling plenty of voice chats and video calls. Game launchers can be closed via the task bar (right-click at the bottom right, select exit) until you're playing a specific title like Steam or EA. NZXT Cam works too unless you prefer monitoring everything while gaming. Xbox and Spotify apps also free up significant memory. I don’t use the Spotify app directly; it runs through a browser tab as well. As for Opera, I’m noticing high CPU usage—could it be due to a few JavaScript-heavy tabs or an add-on/adblocker? If you click the arrow to the left of Opera GX Internet Browser, it expands to show which tab is active. Around 44 processes are running; I use Edge with about nine open tabs, keeping my total around 25.
The system runs on 40€, not 400€. I experienced issues with older components; my setup included a 1600x with 16GB DDR4, which supported 2666 only on the first-gen Ryzen at 2933 or 3200, and a Radeon 380X 4GB for 1080p. After upgrading to the 5700XT, I used a 1440p monitor in November 2019. I added 16GB RAM around May 2020, then switched to a 3600 CPU and upgraded to a 5900X about a year and a half ago. Later, I upgraded to the 6950XT in May and then the 5800X3D in June. I recall the Ryzen 3600 with a 5700XT performed adequately at 1440p in 2019, though it struggles with 1080p now.
I configured all launchers to stay off at startup, yet my games are everywhere and I end up launching many. I should close them more often. It’s important for setting fan speeds with my CAM fan controller, but I can’t block Spotify in the browser—only via app patches. Overall, based on my usage, I might upgrade with more RAM and a faster CPU later. Thanks for your assistance!
I use adblock on Spotify and UBlock Origin; YouTube follows the same. The only consistent block I can't get is Twitch. Honestly, I’ve started to lose interest a bit with the hardware I have—just a 14900k and 64GB RAM. You’re ahead of me.
