It seems the Wi-Fi card might be faulty. Consider using a USB adapter instead.

Hoping it isn't the worst case, though that seems unlikely. I'm not sure if I have any backup plans. Before taking this route, what other options do you have?

Attempt to determine if adjustments were made, aside from the fact that the laptop's Wi-Fi suddenly stopped functioning.

I'm wondering if she might have unintentionally activated airplane mode or something similar. Macs do have diagnostic tools during startup to verify hardware functionality.

It seems unclear. Maybe it's that, though inexpensive USB adapters are available.

Cell phones are gone, so I needed a converter but plan to drop it off at Apple later. The code was CNW004.

If it isn’t covered by the warranty, it might not be worth fixing. The 2013 Wi-Fi wasn’t very good either.

It looks like a 2015 model, a certified local apple repair shop and my second preferred place will handle it in two days for under $100. She probably won’t wait that long, so I booked a service at an official apple shop to get a quote. If they can’t give a realistic price, I’ll let them know it’s not worth it, and they’ll likely just use the adapter.

You're asking about a $100 purchase. I recommend a discreet USB adapter for less cost and potentially improved performance. The Apple store likely won't offer a significantly lower price.
