Hi everyone, I just set up a NAS and linked it to my network. One of my computers is connected via a Tp-Link adapter for internet with a power rating of 500Mb/s, but it only gets about 100Mb/s. I’ve tried changing cables and nothing works faster. Since I’m new to networking, any advice would be super helpful. Thanks! Edit: I realized my network card on the PC is also running at 100Mb/s, same as the router port. Is there a way to force it to 1Gb/s? Both devices support that setting.

Many powerline adapters list speeds like "500Mbps" or "600Mbps," but most only offer 100Mbps connections. Which one fits your needs?

You're connecting via a powerline adapter. If no other issue is present, your best choices are testing other outlets or switching to another adapter. Be honest—Powerline devices aren't built for fast data speeds, so if you need that performance, you might want a completely different setup.

They're either me or a whole 100 meters of cable since I'm in an old house. I'm going to test moving them into various outlets, but I doubt it'll make a difference.

Powerline isn't great; it's not dependable. Better use a long LAN cable instead. 100 meters is quite far, even with LAN.

I’d hope my parents wouldn’t like that idea.

Maybe it's not necessary for such a fast connection.

It only offers a 100Mbps connection, no matter what they claim. You won’t exceed that speed, even with many devices connected. Is it because of the limited number of available devices, incomplete specifications, or the distance constraints before performance declines?
