Compatibility of motherboards with RAM is essential for proper system performance.
Hi everyone, I just received these components: an ASUS ROG Strix X450-F Gaming and a G. Skill Trident Z Neo Series 32 GB (2x16GB) with 288-pin DDR 3600 MHz and CL16-19-19-39 1.35V. I checked the Asus Memory Qualified Vendor List and saw it supports one Dimm socket, two Dimm sockets, but not four. The document linked explains this limitation. If I purchase another identical 32GB RAM set, will I still be able to use the remaining two Dimm slots? Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks!
It means the actual performance won’t be guaranteed with the added RAM modules. There’s a high likelihood it will still meet the advertised speed, but either testing wasn’t thorough or it proved unstable at that speed. You might need to reduce the speed to around 3200/3466 or similar if you go with 64GB.
The 2nd gen Ryzen handles memory speeds better than the 1st generation. The 3rd gen offers the strongest memory support currently. I own a 2700X and just added a second 3000MHz unit today—no problems at startup, unlike my previous 3333MHz OC. My memory module isn’t listed on the OVL for my board, probably because it wasn’t tested beforehand.
Looking into the memory QVL for Asus, I found a G.Skill 64GB kit. You might be able to combine two 32GB kits to reach 64GB. Let me know if you need more guidance!
I understand your concern. The G.Skill team clarified that results aren't guaranteed. Every kit undergoes factory testing and matching, ensuring consistency between units. When multiple kits are used together, they haven't been tested side by side. Specifications confirm identical components, with one kit paired with two modules and another with four. For top performance models, achieving high frequency is challenging, making proper matching essential. This approach supports our product offering, allowing you to buy as many units as needed. Appreciate your patience, GSKILL SUPPORT.
