Battlefield 3 was clearly the starting point, but Battlefield 4 suffered from poor map planning. Initially designed by artists to highlight Frostbite’s strengths, the layout was then adjusted for gameplay balance. Unfortunately, these changes damaged the experience, especially in competitive modes like Domination where tactical movement is essential. The map design contains numerous issues that ruin enjoyment. The overall vibe feels overly simplistic and arcade-like, making it unappealing for fans of the original titles. Personally, I’ve spent over 1200 hours on BF3 and nearly 400 on BF4. Despite regular play, I quickly abandon BF4 after just a few minutes. Minor annoyances such as slow movement, awkward jumps, and lack of air mobility further diminish the experience, compounded by the game’s net-code and flawed map layout.
I still like Battlefield 4, though it hasn’t captured my interest quite like Battlefield 3 did. It seems Battlefield 3 ran smoother and more polished. I’d really like to get Battlefield 3 for PC, but I’m unsure if there are enough players left on the servers to make it worth the effort.
There are plenty of participants. Certain game modes such as Air Superiority have vanished entirely, yet the community remains active. I mainly play on hardcore servers, and even there the scene is still very vibrant!
I share your thoughts, except for swimming, which was a letdown in Battlefield 3. Both titles suffer from poor spawn mechanics in the deathmatch formats, with no clear victor.
BF4 didn’t perform well at first. Even though it’s improved now, I quit competitive play because it was so flawed. I didn’t invest in the premium version. BF3 was a much stronger choice, especially for suppression. I’m hoping they’ve fixed all issues before BF5 comes out. I’d really like to relive what was my favorite series again.
Well suppression performed well. You bring both arcade and realistic viewpoints. In BF4, I get frustrated when I fire a .50 bullet that lands just 10cm from an opponent’s head—realistically it should be fatal even at that distance, yet he keeps shooting with pinpoint accuracy from 400 meters. The same goes for hitting a sniper from 300 meters with my assault rifle and getting a headshot with three bullets. I get why missing a target can feel unfair in CQC, but it doesn’t align with the expectations of long-range precision.
Agreed. BF4 offers many improvements over BF3, such as variable zoom, a refined mini-map, and enhanced swimming mechanics. Incorporating these features into BF3 would result in BF5 with better graphics. I’d definitely buy it! While spawning is problematic in both games, the tactical level design of BF3 still makes it enjoyable to play.
