You’d likely enjoy Dota 2 more, though both can run on average laptops. League of Legends is generally lighter and may perform better on weaker machines.
Consider trying both options. They offer similar experiences with slight differences in preference. Performance might vary based on your laptop's condition, so it could affect how smoothly they run.
It's possible to play LoL on a potato, which is why I'm going with that! (+ It's fun)
And there is a big skill difference between each game. Dota 2 is strategic mind, high skill level players while LoL is targeted to new players. Dota 2 however is great to play if you can keep track of your hero's turning speed(switching direction, yes THIS IS A MECHANIC!),etc
I favor League, though I only got into it quicker than Dota. However, I ceased playing League consistently when school began this year, so I can't really comment on the situation.
These games are straightforward to operate, though LoL seems simpler overall—especially on less powerful machines. Dota 2 looks more appealing, and it will improve further with the Source 2 update. There isn’t a superior title here; they stem from the same roots. The style originated in Dota, a Warcraft III custom map, with a few other titles adapting it for multiplayer. Heroes of Newerth took the map and refined it, adding better mechanics. Riot then launched LoL, blending elements from Dota, Heroes of Newerth, and other titles while introducing its own concepts. Meanwhile, the original Dota developer, Icefrog, faced legal issues with Blizzard and sought independence. GabeN later joined the team at Valve, leading to Dota 2’s development. By then, LoL had carved its own path, evolving beyond a mere Dota clone. Personally, I consider Dota 2 more demanding and rewarding with friends, whereas LoL offers a solid experience even solo.
LoL works well on low-end computers, which helped its popularity. Also, you need to update your profile picture—FloRolf already has it.
Both titles work well on most systems, though my friend's nine-year-old laptop handles League and Dota without issues. If you're just starting out with MOBAs and want to avoid overwhelming yourself, I recommend League of Legends. While similar to Dota, it has a steeper learning curve due to its shops, more items, minion denial options, and complex map layout. Whichever you choose, I strongly suggest playing with friends—it makes the experience more enjoyable and less stressful.
