Hey there! With your old Dell laptop, it’s best to stick with Windows 10 since it’s more compatible and widely supported. Ubuntu 18.04 might not work well with your hardware. Just keep the Windows 10 copy you already have handy.

Each operating system serves a specific purpose. I’m open to learning Ubuntu if I haven’t explored it before.

I mainly use this laptop for simple word processing. I feel reasonably skilled with Ubuntu. The machine is still in good shape, and I wondered if Ubuntu could improve its performance since I thought my Windows 7 setup had a lot of unwanted software.

Consider Ubuntu and check for compatibility with your hardware. If it functions smoothly, continue using it.

I would choose Ubuntu, dedicate time to mastering tools like bspwm, and you might achieve a faster machine.

Avoid using Windows for laptops unless you need gaming or video editing. Switching to Ubuntu will give you a better experience.

I’m used to my old 2011 laptop getting warm when Windows 10 ran, especially since the CPU stayed near full capacity from background tasks. Fedora works well, and I don’t think Ubuntu would be much heavier or slower. The only issue was that the fan got loud and the machine became too hot for comfortable activities like watching Netflix.

Except for models similar to my E4310, glhf doesn't take on Sudoku.

You have a laptop equipped with a Broadwell Core M 5Y10c that performs excellently on Linux, while Windows 10 can be inconsistent on older or less powerful systems. Ubuntu tends to run smoothly on such hardware.
