The title clearly states your intent. You're preparing to purchase components and want to maximize performance. Comparing the Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 7 2700x side by side, you're weighing the benefits against the trade-offs. Your main worry is whether losing two cores from the Ryzen 5 3600 significantly affects performance, especially since you plan to use it mainly for gaming. This shows your attention to detail and desire for an informed decision.

If the resolution is 1440p, I'd pick 7 at 2700x for a 1080p version.

For gaming, opt for the 3600 since it offers better performance per core. The additional two cores will only matter if you're running other tasks.

I was considering that idea. Mostly I focus on simple video editing for memes, but your suggestion is appreciated. I hadn't thought of it before.

You're using a mid-range GPU, which typically offers only a slight increase in FPS compared to lower-end options.

It's also wise to wait until Black Friday, as PC parts are likely to be cheaper then.

I really want to, but I'm super impatient. Right now I'm just planning to get the Mobo, CPU, and RAM, then buy the rest during Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Just one last thing I want to mention: there might be a chance the motherboard I'm getting won't have the latest bios update for the newer Ryzen chips, and that I'd need a previous series CPU to update that. That's why I'm so hesitant with the Ryzen 5 3600, otherwise I'd choose that CPU immediately.

Are you considering an upgrade on the same platform during 2020-2021? Yes > 3600 no > 2700x
