I'm going to target these two areas at once. Audio handling requires minimal CPU until it starts to strain. The key factors are sampling rate and buffer size. Higher rates with smaller buffers reduce latency—this mainly matters when recording instruments or vocals. The issue arises when your CPU can't keep up with the buffer, causing audio drops in your DAW. At 48KHz with a 512-byte buffer, you should be fine on a modern CPU unless you're processing massive tracks with heavy effects. That's usually only a concern if you're streaming tons of tracks through plugins. I've been at 96KHz and haven't seen many problems after switching to Cubase (using my 4770k for offline work), but I can definitely handle an i7-9700k faster than expected in Ableton 11.
