During registration for Gmail, select the option to allow using an alternative email address. This lets you keep both accounts linked.

You'll likely need a Google account for an Android device. For Windows Phone or Windows 8, a Microsoft account is probably required. The choice of email provider isn't that important right now.

I prefer avoiding rigid systems like Outlook and worry about privacy issues with Gmail. I’d rather manage my own mail server if possible, though most of us likely lack the time or patience for that setup. For simplicity, I’d opt for Gmail, even though I admit to being a bit contradictory after mentioning it now. Convenience seems to be the main driver these days—it’s overwhelming. Ultimately, choose what suits you best. Experiment and feel free to switch back if needed. If you need an open-source alternative to Outlook, Thunderbird is an option, though its reception over the years isn’t clear. I’m not particularly fond of email in general.

I switched to Gmail; Hotmail was my choice, but Google is superior. It also runs smoothly on Android devices.

I'm completely different from that. I rarely receive spam in Outlook except for fake bank accounts, but Gmail works fine... unfortunately.

I have both options. I use Outlook for my Microsoft account stuff and a few platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Gmail is my primary email, with important messages there too, plus YouTube for subscription info. Some go in separate places; one feels better than the other. It’s basically main emails, social media like YouTube with ads, and all the spam.
