Compare 7800X3D and 14700K regarding overall response time.
Hey there, I'm still trying to decide between 7800X3D and 14700K. My main concern is input lag, end-to-end latency, responsiveness, and smoothness—especially important for VALORANT as a pro player. I have two rigs in mind: a CPU of Ryzen 7 7800X3D, a cooler from Corsair H150i RGB ELITE 360mm MOBO, paired with Gigabyte AORUS B650 ELITE AX or MSI B650 Tomahawk WiFi GPU, a RAM of Corsair 6000MHZ CL30 32GB, and an SSD of SAMSUNG 990 EVO 1TB. The other option is an Intel i7 14700K/KF with a similar cooler and the same RAM and SSD specs. What matters most is getting the best performance for quick reactions.
I haven't tested a 14700k yet, but I know 3D v-cache offers some impressive benefits. I've seen it work well with the 5800x3D and achieved similar outcomes using the 7950x3D during tests comparing CCD0 and CCD1. The main benefit of 3D v-cache, in my view, is the consistent smoothness of frame rates. According to the idea, the additional 64MB of L3 cache helps avoid frequent CPU operations outside RAM for tasks like player position draw calls, which cuts down latency when sending data to the GPU. If the 14700k can match that performance with fast enough RAM, it could be a strong contender. Still, I’d prefer sticking with 3D v-cache for now until it proves itself as the better solution.
First, the corsair AIO isn't an excellent cooler and is also quite costly. The 990 Pro is similarly priced despite offering performance gains. As discussed before, the CPU situation is the same. If you share your country and budget, I can help you design a more efficient build that delivers better performance without breaking the bank.
Usually can't comment on Valorant. It seems like a 6-core, 4.5GHz boosted CPU handles Fortnite well—maybe 14.7GHz vs 7800x3D. Still unsure when core count becomes too much.
It was exactly what I anticipated—the 3D-V cache reduces the need for pulls from RAM, which leads to decreased latency since the 3D-V cache's duration is shorter than that of the RAM.
In terms of computational speed, the 14700k usually surpasses the 7900x. Intel probably added extra E-cores to the 14700k to achieve that result. This discussion focuses on gaming, and while the 7800x3D offers good IPC, it tends to outperform the 14700k in overall frame rates thanks to its 3D v-cache feature.
